Celebrating Us: Black History Month Leap Year Edition





We're entering the 3rd month of 2024. There have been a few great losses and some history making wins in our community already this year. March is about to come in and our 24-7, 365 days of blackness will continue through the rest of the year. We won’t see an extra day for our greatness again until 2028. As we continue to clock in at work, make sure all our needs are met, survive, thrive, and continue to be a part of the world there is something we should remember about who we are. We are a VERY distinct and unique kind of people. We are strong, determined, intelligent, creative, FINE AF, and we DESERVE to be celebrated. We have made it this far, survived, and conquered so much. The key to our power is within us and connecting with one another adds to that power and empowers one another. It’s in how we laugh and how we remember certain parts of a family reunion or a cookout. The way we can have a convo with someone with or without speaking a word or how we complement one another and just lift each other up.


The world may try to paint us negatively, discourage us, steal from us, lock us up, and kill us but we still stand. Black man, Black woman, Black babies, Black people, oppression can do what it wants and say what it will. The facts are still the same no matter how many attempts are made to erase it, ignore it, discredit it, or take away from it. We are who built this country and who appreciate those who helped us along the way. Enjoy today and even if today may not be your best day, your story is still being written. You CAN start over, you can accomplish your dreams, you can be whoever you want to be, you can do it. You are somebody. You are greatness. You are the original. You are who you say you are not anyone else. Always remember and remind yourself and each other you are loved, you matter, you are someone. Happy Black History Month.
